This study aims to investigate the potential X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (pXRF) identifying archaeological Bone element distribution relation known disease categories is analyzed pXRF from femora 73 individuals (34 adult; 39 non-adult) post-Medieval Coach Lane collection (Durham University). There were no significant differences elemental ratios with scurvy, rickets, and cribra orbitalia. alterations content observed syphilis (Mn/S, Mn/Cl, Ba/Cl) neoplastic (Ba/Sr, S/Sr, Mn/Fe, Zn/Cl). It likely that post-depositional diagenetic changes, potentially exacerbated by industrial location burial site, altered sampled thereby effectively obscured any changes detectable pXRF.

Application of portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) for heavy metal analysis of soils in crop fields near abandoned mine sites.

To get representative soil samples, a sampling method was verified for crop fields in the vicinity of abandoned mine sites. Application of appropriate sampling or analytical methods is very important as it affects the costs, time, and accuracy of the refined investigation of soil contamination. Two-time sampling for each crop field was conducted to verify the reproducibility of a zigzag method ...

Determining the Content of Silicon Dioxide in Bauxites Using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

The X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and the MA.BM.006 reference spectrophotometric methods were used to determine the content of SiO2 (%) in bauxites from different deposits. The treatment of samples prior to the analysis involved the following steps: annealing, melting using the borax method,  and the formation of beads. Certified reference bauxite samples were used for the cali...

Immediate screening of lead exposure in the workplace using portable X-ray fluorescence

The use of a portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (PXRF) equipped with a miniaturised X-ray tube producing a small 8 mm diameter X-ray beam required the validation of two new sampling protocols for the immediate screening of occupational lead exposure. First, lead in dust and fumes, collected by Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) inhalable samplers on 25 mm diameter membrane filters, ...

X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy Using X–ray Fluorescence Spectrometer

Strong characteristic Kα X-ray lines are accompanied by weak lines due to the radiative Auger effect (RAE) [1, 2]. The characteristic Kα fluorescent X-rays (K-L2,3 lines) are emitted by the 2p→1s electric dipole transition after one of the 1s electron photoionization, Though the probability is less than 0.01, one of the 2p electrons is excited into an unoccupied discrete or continuum level simu...

Bone lead concentrations assessed by in vivo X-ray fluorescence.

The assessment of past chronic lead exposure is difficult. Chronic lead burden is not always correctly assessed using laboratory-based tests that are useful for acute or recent exposures. We describe a case of suspected chronic lead exposure that illustrated the need for improved and possibly noninvasive methods to determine cumulative lead body burden. X-Ray fluorescence (XRF) is discussed as ...
